Portable Appliance
A Portable appliance is an item of equipment less than 18kg that is intended to be moved while in operation or an appliance that can easily be moved from one place to another, e.g., toaster, fan heater, laminator, desk fan, extension lead.
Movable Appliance
An Item of Movable equipment (Sometimes referred to as transportable equipment) is equipment that is either:

18 kg or less and not fixed e.g., an electric compressor

equipment with wheels, castors or other means to facilitate movement by the operator as required to perform its intended use, e.g., air conditioning unit.
Hand Held Appliance
A hand held appliance or Piece of equipment is equipment intended to be held in the hand during normal use, e.g., angle grinder, iron, hairdryer, hedge-cutter, soldiering iron, power drill, etc.
Stationary Appliance
An item of stationary equipment or a stationary appliance is equipment that has a mass exceeding 18 kg and is provided with a carrying handle, e.g./ refrigerator, vending machine or dishwasher etc.
